For a red-hot moment, it looked like the Tampa Bay Lightning were going to duplicate their 6-4 win over the Carolina Hurricanes from back in December. They went down 3-0 before rallying back to tie it. Then they gave up a fourth goal before tying it. Unfortunately, they couldn’t find the fifth goal before the Hurricanes did and Sebastian Aho’s power play goal in the third period proved to be in the difference in the 5-4 win for the Hurricanes.
“We allowed them to get behind us,” is how Ro...
When Precious Achiuwa, Maxime Raynaud and Dequon Plowden come to town, Katie bar the doors. You’re in for a tough one. Achiuwa’s career-high scoring night spelled doom for the Dallas Mavericks (21-37) on Thursday at American Airlines Center, as the Sacramento Kings begrudgingly (14-47) took the 130-121 win in the battle of who wanted it […]
The Flyers closed out their pair of back-to-back road games with a trip up to New York to face off against a struggling Rangers team. Coming off of a disappointing loss to the Capitals in last night’s return to action, the Flyers were eager to regroup and find a more positive result to close out the trip. And while it wasn’t the smoothest of complete showings for them, they were able to gut this one out and come away with a big win in overtime.

The Blackhawks came back from the Olympic break looking much like the team from before it, losing 4-2 on the road to the Nashville Predators on Thursday night.
After six minutes of unsuccessful power-play time for the Hawks early in the first period, Filip Forsberg jumped on this turnover for the first goal of the game:

There was a point, about midway through Thursday’s 4-1 loss to Pittsburgh, where it kind of, sort of felt as if the Devils might manage to salvage a point, maybe even steal two from the Penguins. Paul Cotter had scored, an almost water-to-wine level miracle. Jacob Markstrom was playing as well as he has at […]
The Dallas Mavericks (21-37) were beaten early and late by the Sacramento Kings (14-47) at home on Thursday, falling 130-121 in their first home game in over a month. The Rangers welcomed back key stars and honored their Olympic champions, but a late breakdown and Matvei Michkov’s overtime winner turned celebration into frustration.
With Jeremy Swayman given an extra night off to acclimate to post-Olympic life, Joonas Korpisalo filled in more than admirably. The former Columbus netminder made 36 saves, including several big ones, to lead the Bruins to a 4-2 win over the Blue Jackets at TD Garden. Viktor Arvidsson led the way on offense with two […]
Noah Dobson scored two fist-pumping goals in his first meeting against his old team, but Matthew Schaefer scored two of his own to erase those, then the Islanders tied the game late with a sixth attacker, which set the table for Canadiens-killer J-G Pageau to score the OT winner in Montreal. The 4-3 win gives […]
Craig Berube addressed the media after his team’s 5-1 loss to the Florida Panthers, which dropped the Maple Leafs’ record to 27-23-9. On the team’s slow start to the game: It is a tough start, right? We got down three. The shorthanded goal was tough. We know Florida. We know they’re going to come out […]

It’s been three weeks, but there won’t be many more off days for the Canadiens before the end of the season arrives.
First period
Martin St-Louis clearly remembers how well Brendan Gallagher, Phillip Danault, and Josh Anderson played in Winnipeg in the previous game because they’re out to start. And they spend their shift in the offensive zone.
It’s the New York Islanders’ fourth line that opens the scoring in the game, however, as an attempted pass from Danault in his own z...
