Texas Rangers rumors: Jordan Montgomery is returning to Arlington on a one year deal for $1.25 million plus incentive bonuses, per Evan Grant. Montgomery, who is returning from Tommy John surgery, would presumably immediately go on the 60 day injured list. Montgomery, of course, was one of the heroes of the 2023 World Series team. […]

The Ottawa Senators could have easily leaned into caution ahead of the roster freeze, but the latest word around the league is they are still trying to buy, coming out of the Olympic break. Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen reported that general manager Steve Staios would prefer to add rather than subtract once the Olympic break ends, even after Ottawa chose the status quo before the freeze. The target list is not bargain bin depth either, with league executives telling Garrioch...

The Olympic break gives a chance to pause and look at the top prospects within the Penguins’ organization. Here’s a quick refresher based off last summer’s rankings for how things are going for the prospects. We’ll break down some of the notable cases going on based off the tiers established previously. Tier 7: #22 – […]
The Panthers hired Dan Morgan as president of football operations and general manager on January 22, 2024. Morgan is a Panthers “lifer” after spending his seven-year NFL career in Charlotte from 2001 through 2007 then spending years in the Panthers front office. Let’s take a look back on Morgan’s second season as GM. We’ve previously […]
A daily roundup of Winnipeg Jets, Manitoba Moose coverage — all the pro hockey news that matters in Manitoba and beyond.
The New Jersey Devils season has not gone according to plan. They’re unlikely to make the playoffs when they return from the Olympic break. And because this is supposedly a “win now” team, missing the playoffs entirely is an unacceptable result. People are looking for someone to point the finger at and blame for the […]

One such change could be behind the Devils’ bench, with […]
For the second week in a row a member of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins was named the AHL’s player of the week. Avery Hayes claimed the honors this week by producing four goals in two games. Oh, and in between he found the time for a little dalliance in the NHL as well. Fresh off his […]
Welcome to Wednesday, folks! The Bruins continue their NHL hibernation with the Winter Olympics well underway over in Italy, so there hasn’t been a ton to talk about around these parts. That will likely change today, as the men’s hockey tournament gets underway. There will be two games on Feb. 11 and three games on […]
About a week after the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics officially kicked off, the competition that I am most interested in is about to get underway today. Can’t say that I’ve watched a whole lot so far, but that should change now that the Men’s Ice Hockey tournament is about to start on Wednesday. Have to say that I’ve taken full advantage of the time without NHL hockey to take a step back and get to some of the tasks I have put off because I am always watching television.

Here are your Pens Points for this Wednesday morning… Are you watching the Olympic hockey tournaments? Here’s a reminder that the rules at the Olympics will be a bit different than those seen during a normal NHL game. The NHL break continues but men’s hockey begins today at the Olympics, with Group B featuring Slovakia-Finland (10:30 a.m. EST) and Sweden vs. hosts Italy (3:00 p.m. EST). There are three groups that will do round-robin in the preliminary round, and the U.S. has the relatively light Group C assignment with House of Frans Denmark, […]

We (and by we I mean me, the person writing this, who is technically sort of in charge, and I did not consult anyone else so the views expressed here may not reflect the views of Broad Street Hockey as a whole) are rooting for Team Czechia around here, and our boy Dan Vladar is pumped and ready to go! *Presumably Rick Tocchet is also pumped and ready to go. [ Inquirer ]

Will Shoukri and Patrik Bexell recorded a 35-minute episode that briefly touched upon the Olympics (it’s hard not to, with the women’s tournament underway and the Marie-Philip Poulin injury news hanging over Team Canada) but the point of the show wasn’t the Games, it was Laval. With the AHL All-Star break here, I wanted to use the moment to zoom out to see what this event actually means, how often it turns into NHL opportunity, and why this year’s All-Star group is more prospect-heavy than peo...
