Oilers’ Leon Draisaitl reveals silver lining of early playoff defeat in 2025-26

The Edmonton Oilers have been one of the better teams in the NHL, but they had one of their down seasons last year, losing in the first round to the Anaheim Ducks. Before then, they had been to the Stanley Cup Final two years in a row, facing the Florida Panthers and losing twice. Defenceman John Klingberg announces retirement from NHL

John Klingberg’s career has come to an end. The defenceman announced his retirement from professional hockey on Friday. Klingberg appeared in 700 NHL games across 12 seasons with six different franchises. He spent the bulk of his tenure with the Dallas Stars before making brief stops in Anaheim, Minnesota, Toronto, Edmonton and San Jose. The 34-year-old totalled 92 goals and 351 assists for 443 points in his career. Injuries unfortunately became a major issue for Klingberg as his career progre...

Thousands sign petition calling on Oilers to reverse Formenton signing

An online petition calling on the Edmonton Oilers to reverse the signing of Alex Formenton had collected more than 19,000 signatures as of Friday morning. The petition was started by longtime Oilers superfan Mary Loewen, known as “Mama Stanley,” who said this week she would no longer support the team while Formenton remains on the roster. The Oilers signed Formenton to a one-year, US$850,000 contract Wednesday. He was one of five former Canadian world junior players acquitted last year of sexu...

Connor McDavid warns the NHL about ‘egos-aside’ new Oilers team under Mike Babcock

Speaking ahead of the 2026-27 NHL season, Connor McDavid dropped a bold statement about the Edmonton Oilers' locker room ever since Mike Babcock was hired. On paper, the Edmonton Oilers may not look too different from the way they did a few seasons ago when they lost in back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals. However, there’s a big difference behind the bench, and Connor McDavid believes there’s been a sort of rite of passage in the Gateway to the North following the arrival of head coach Mike Babc...

Oilers Eye Return to A-Game with New Respect for Process

EDMONTON — So you had a bad day. Or in the Edmonton Oilers’ case, a bad season. So what? It happens to the best of ‘em. Two years playing until the end of June, two Stanley Cup Final losses, and whatever it was that the Oilers tried to do differently in the 2025-26 season simply did not work. So the question becomes: Was it really a one-off? Or was it a genuine drop-off? Nobody is doubting that the Florida Panthers can bounce back after a season in which they finished 14th in the East and 25th...

Oilers release 27-man rookie camp roster

The Edmonton Oilers have announced their rookie camp roster that will arrive at the facilities on Friday. The plan is for players to report for medicals and their first on-ice practice at the Downtown Community Arena, the organization said in a statement Thursday. The big names include forwards Isaac Howard, Josh Samanski, and Quinn Hutson….

Connor McDavid drops pre-training camp message that will fire up Oilers fans

Following two consecutive Stanley Cup Final losses in 2024 and 2025, the Edmonton Oilers are enjoying a longer-than-usual offseason after being eliminated by the Anaheim Ducks in Round 1 of the 2026 postseason. Although Connor McDavid would have preferred a shorter summer, the NHL’s premier forward is more than ready to get back into the […] The post Connor McDavid drops pre-training camp message that will fire up Oilers fans appeared first on ClutchPoints .

Oilers lose support of superfan ‘Mama Stanley’ after Formenton signing

The Edmonton Oilers’ announcement that they signed a former Team Canada junior player acquitted of sexual assault last year has come as a massive body check to one longtime superfan. Mary Loewen — affectionately known among Oilers fans as “Mama Stanley” for dressing as a sequined Stanley Cup during the playoffs — took to social media to say she’d no longer support the team. “I am deeply disappointed by the Edmonton Oilers’ decision to sign Alex Formenton,” Loewen’s post Wednesday says. “Althou...

As camp approaches, refreshed Connor McDavid looks for line stability with Oilers

The time away was longer than he would’ve liked, but Connor McDavid believes there’s optimism and energy in the Edmonton Oilers ranks during the captains’ skates. “All signs are positive,” said McDavid after getting off the ice on Wednesday. It was his first media availability in Edmonton since the team’s exit interviews. “I’m just excited. It…

Oilers superfan ‘Mama Stanley’ says she won’t support team after Formenton signing

The Edmonton Oilers’ controversial signing of Alex Formenton has cost them a superfan. Mary Loewen, better known as “Mama Stanley” for her silver outfit resembling the Stanley Cup, shared on Instagram Wednesday night that she would no longer be supporting the team. “Although he was acquitted in court, I cannot ignore my conscience or what…

Bill Daly updates Texas expansion, talks Oilers’ Formenton signing

HENDERSON, NV — The National Hockey League’s plan to launch a 33rd team in Texas keeps rolling towards reality — but is not a done deal just yet. “The presumption that we’ve gone far with this group, the Friedkin group, is correct. It’s something that we’ve been actually working on probably for two-plus years now, and it took us a while to kind of get to a place where we said, ‘OK, let’s see if we can make this happen now,’” NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly told Elliotte Friedman and Kyle Buk...

Is Chris Kreider Signing With The Boston Bruins Realistic?

The Anaheim Ducks made the surprise move to terminate veteran forward Chris Kreider's contract today. It was a mutual decision, which leaves Kreider a chance to return to the Eastern Conference after spending a year out in Orange County, joining Jacob Trouba out west.  His year as a Duck wasn't insignificant, as he got to experience a trip to the playoffs as he battled against the Edmonton Oilers, in what was an easy first-round win for the battle-hardened Oilers, who were Stanley Cup con...

Why Oilers decided to sign Alex Formenton

EDMONTON — It’s a process. A legal process. A moral process. A hockey process. A human process. “Throughout this whole process,” began Alex Formenton, one of Hockey Canada’s ‘London Five’ whose National Hockey League career resumes in Edmonton after four years in exile, “I’ve been open and honest of my actions in it. Given that, I think that has granted me an opportunity today.” It is a fact that Formenton was the first of five players to turn himself in to authorities in the 2018 sexual assau...
