With the 2025 Texas Rangers season having come to an end, we shall be, over the course of the offseason, taking a look at every player who appeared in a major league game for the Texas Rangers in 2025. Today we are looking at relief pitcher Cole Winn. So is Cole Winn good now? Winn, […]
Lázaro Estrada is a 26-year-old (27 in April), right-handed pitcher, from Cuba. He made it to the majors for the first time last year, pitching in two games, 7.1 innings. He was hit pretty hard, 10 hits in 7.1 innings, but he also had 10 strikeouts. Lázaro was #36 on our Top 40 Prospect list […]
The 2026 World Baseball Classic is set to begin in less than three months, as Team USA is looking to avenge a runner-up finish at the hands of Shohei Ohtani and Japan back in 2023. Manager Mark DeRosa heads up the American squad, a team that is headlined by several big-name stars. Let’s take a […]
The Winnipeg Jets began their road trip with a win in New Jersey, but the competition will get more difficult in the second stop when they visit the Tampa Bay Lightning. The True North victory didn’t result in our club gaining any ground in the wildcard race, as the San Jose Sharks, Los Angeles Kings, & Seattle Kraken all won on Tuesday too. Therefore the Jets were in the 4th worst slot in the NHL team points percentage until the New York Rangers dropped another contest last night, leaving Win...
Fifth in the series. Today we look at the Cubs’ newly-anointed utility man. Matt Shaw is a controversial figure in Cubdom right now. Not for his political beliefs (at this time), but because the signing of Alex Bregman necessarily leads to a change of position for the young man, and because it looks a bit like […]
The 2009 season marked a transitional year for the Yankees, coming off the final season in the original Yankee Stadium and the team’s first season without a postseason appearance since 1995. The team’s aging core was still producing, but veteran slugger Jason Giambi’s contract expired after the season, leaving a hole at the cold corner. […]
It is prospect list season! The Royals have a few names that rank highly on lists, providing reasons for optimism. But despite signs of improvement, it is clear that the team still needs more progress to become a sustainable winner. Baseball America is the gold standard of prospect lists, release their 2026 update last week. […]
A year ago around this time, Northwestern baseball fans were trying to convince themselves it couldn’t get any worse as they prepared for the 2025 season. After back-to-back campaigns where the Wildcats posted their lowest Big Ten win percentages since 1970, to say Ben Greenspan’s squad bounced back would be an understatement. 2025 was nothing […]
The Arizona Cardinals coaching search could stretch through the Super Bowl. In a recent report, coming out late last night, the team has scheduled another interview with Klint Kubiak, the Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator. So, the Cardinals have been waiting and taking their time trying to get another shot at Kubiak, but so are the […]
We’ve spent a lot of the last week discussing, describing, and unpacking the state of the Chicago Cubs’ outfield depth. Recently, the Cubs claimed a speed and defense guy for depth in Justin Dean , and signed two bounce-back types in Chas McCormick and Dylan Carlson . Add them together with Kevin Alcantara, and you have a reasonably decent mix of guys to compete for the 4th outfielder job in Spring Training, plus a good chance at keeping a few of them around at Iowa as depth for the year ahead...
Yesterday, our own Bob Osgood reviewed the pitching staff and noted this when it came to Connelly Early’s projections: “Early’s 16% K-BB, and near-3.50 ERA in both projections, is startling. Of course, thanks to the logjam of pitchers on this team, he’s projected for only 50-60 innings at the moment. That being said, there are […]
On January 21, 2026, Brandon Sproat was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers. This list, and Sproat’s place on it, was compiled back in late-November. For continuity’s sake, I decided upon including Sproat’s profile, but for all intents and purposes, every player on our list below Sproat can be considered to have moved up a spot […]
We’re starting to see more and more prospect pieces come out about either a top 100 ranking of individual prospects, or we’re seeing entire systems ranked. How they are being evaluated is probably right around where we would think they were. From Keith Law ($): 15 – What I said about Detroit applies here in […]
On Monday night, No. 6 LSU won their fifth-straight game, eventually pulling away from visiting Florida for the 89-60 victory. Jada Richard led LSU with 20 points, with her 12 third-quarter points helping the Tigers finally separate from the Gators. A starter in 20 of 21 games, Richard’s emergence as a trusted point guard has […]
Winter officially has its grip on Chicago, but this weekend the White Sox once again are bringing the heat indoors with SoxFest Live at the Ramova Theatre, in the heart of the South Side. Now in its second year at the iconic venue, the reimagined fan experience unfolds across two nights and blends player access, […]
Good morning! It’s prospect ranking season, and we’ve already seen a few new top-100 lists, most of which feature the same quartet of Red Sox minor leaguers: Payton Tolle, Connelly Early, Franklin Arias, and Kyson Witherspoon. Today, we’ve got a couple of rankings of the system as a whole, with Keith Law giving the Sox […]
Despite the wealth of injuries among this cohort already, the Detroit Tigers didn’t back off of their draft strategy in 2025. They went prep heavy from the start, sprinkled in some college players they hope to improve, and tried to save money to lure some talented high schoolers into signing and starting their pro careers. […]
Morning, all! Skip Schumaker’s goal is for Josh Jung to be feared again and for Jung to return to his 2023 form after two really disappointing seasons. The Athletic has their ranking of all 30 farm systems. And that’s all I’m seeing out there.
The Chicago Cubs, having brought back Christian Bethancourt as a third/veteran/depth catcher on a minor league deal, were probably not going to be a realistic return spot for Reese McGuire. Sure, they added two of those types last offseason (McGuire and Carlos Perez), but McGuire has since shown he can still be a quality big league back-up, and Moises Ballesteros has since emerged as a relative lock for the big league roster (where he might occasionally serve, himself, as the emergency third c...
A rivalry that used to mean everything now feels like Spencer Martin vs. David Rittich, Panarin sadness, and a whole lot of existential dread.
Spring Training is just around the corner and so is the 2026 World Baseball Classic, which will begin March 4 in Tokyo and March 6 in San Juan, Miami and Houston. A number of Cubs have already committed to play in the WBC, and there could be others going forward — not all the rosters […]
Good morning friends. It was kind of a slow news day yesterday around baseball. Hopefully things will pick up again soon as we close in on spring training. Regardless, here are the stories we’re tracking as we pass the mid-week point. In Mariners news… Around the league…
When news broke that the Detroit Lions had added former Giants interim head coach/offensive coordinator Mike Kafka to their coaching staff, many began immediately wondering how he’d fit in. A week prior, the Lions had hired Drew Petzing to be their offensive coordinator, and many believed Kafka was worthy of that job either in Detroit […]
21. Jordy Vargas (161 points, 14 ballots) Vargas was one of Colorado’s headline prospects from their January 2021 amateur free agent class, signing for $500k out of the Dominican Republic. The 6’5” 22-year-old right-handed starter has MLB bloodlines — he is the son of pitcher Yorkis Perez, who played in parts of nine big-league seasons for […]
In the MacKenzie Gore trade, the Washington Nationals got five pieces in return. They received Gavin Fien, Alejandro Rosario, Devin Fitz-Gerald, Abimelec Ortiz and Yeremy Cabrera. We have talked about the first four prospects, but I thought Yeremy Cabrera was worth discussing too. He may be the 5th piece in the deal, but he is […]
