Chicago Bears Roster Moves: Amen Ogbongbemiga activated

Earlier today, the Chicago Bears announced that linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga was activated from injured reserve, while waiving linebacker Carl Jones Jr. in a corresponding move. Ogbongbemiga has yet to play in a game this year after being placed on IR before the season started with a knee injury. In 2024, his first in Chicago, he […]

Kyle Tucker wins NL Silver Slugger Award

As the Cubs make a qualifying offer to Kyle Tucker that he will almost certainly decline, he takes home some hardware: Even while missing time with some injuries, Tucker batted .266/.377/.464 with 22 home runs and 25 stolen bases in 136 games for the Cubs. It was a calculated risk for Jed Hoyer to trade […]

Kyle Tucker Wins a Silver Slugger Award!

A final plaudit to add to his resume before free agency, Kyle Tucker wins his second career Silver Slugger Award. On the season, Tucker hit .266/.377/.464/139 wRC+ (third highest in the NL among qualified outfielders), with 22 homers, 91 runs scored, 73 RBI, and 25 stolen bases. The Cubs acquired Kyle Tucker for his bat, and, outside of a particularly notable dip, he produced when he was healthy enough to play. It’s a bummer things didn’t work out better overall for the Cubs, but it’s har...

We have a brand-new Bear Bones podcast with host Dr. Mason West and his special guest, our host of Making Monsters, Taylor Doll, previewing all the latest on the upcoming Chicago Bears vs. New York Giants game. Chicago Bears Thursday Injury Report: 3 players return to practice

The Chicago Bears got some encouraging news in Thursday’s official injury report, as several players who had been listed as DNP (Did Not Practice) made it back to practice, and most of the players listed as limited on Wednesday were given the “Full” designation for Thursday. The most significant player trending towards “doubtful” or “out” […]

Chicago Cubs Extend Qualifying Offers to Kyle Tucker and Shōta Imanaga

There it is. Today, per Jeff Passan , the Chicago Cubs extended a one-year, $22 million Qualifying Offer not only to Kyle Tucker – we knew that was coming – but also to Shōta Imanaga. The latter was put deeply into question by recent developments in the market, but clearly the Cubs believe Imanaga is worth a one-year, $22 million deal, and/or he will reject it in favor of a better contract, either with a new team or negotiated with the Cubs. The option the Cubs declined on Imanaga was eff...

BN Cubs Podcast Ep. 37: Shota, Flaherty and Bieber, the Brad Keller Decision, More

Episode 37 of the Bleacher Nation Cubs Podcast is officially live! In this week’s episode, Brett and I talk about the Shota Imanaga decision this week, and what he might be looking at in a market that forced Jack Flaherty and Shane Bieber to accept surprisingly soft terms before even testing the market. Likewise, we get into the extreme bullpen turnover ahead of us, and what that migth mean for the Cubs pursuits this winter. After the break, in our transaction corner, we focus our at...

Cubs make qualifying offers to Kyle Tucker and Shōta Imanaga

Thursday was the deadline for teams to make qualifying offers to their players who are free agents and the Cubs did so for two such players. Kyle Tucker was an obvious choice to make the offer of $22.025 million. Just as obvious is the fact that he’ll turn it down and head toward another team […]

Thursday’s Bears Injury Report Sees Several Key Players Receive Upgrades

An updated Chicago Bears injury report ahead of the team’s upcoming Week 10 game against the New York Giants is OUT. And, in what I would call a pleasant surprise, a whole bunch of injured Bears players were given upgrades. Here is a quick rundown: Running back D’Andre Swift (groin) went from being a limited participant on Wednesday to being a full go on Thursday. Swift was a DNP in all three practices in last week’s Bears injury report, then missed the team’s Week 9 win against th...

Bears–Giants Storylines: Monangai’s Momentum, Odunze Watch, Secondary Concerns, and a New Pass Rusher Arrives

The Chicago Bears shook off their loss to the Baltimore Ravens with a chaotic shootout win in Cincinnati, and now they return home for a matchup with the Giants. Chicago is starting to find its offensive identity behind Caleb Williams, but several big questions linger as the schedule tightens. Will Kyle Monangai’s breakout moments will lead to a bigger workload? What does Rome Odunze’s recent dip in production really mean? Defensively, the Bears are coming off one of their roughest w...

Good, Better, Best: Chicago Bears vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Hello, Chicago Bears Fans!  Well, that was a roller-coaster of a game, wasn’t it?  In this week’s Good, Better, Best, we look back on a wild game against the Cincinnati Bengals where Joe Flacco did Joe Flacco things – and every Bears fan had their hearts in their throat, knowing how these kinds of games […]

Cubs walkoff heroes: Willie Smith, April 8, 1969

A version of this story originally ran April 8, 2019, the 50th anniversary of this historic event. I repost it here as part of this walkoff wins series, with some minor edits and a few notes on Willie Smith’s career. To understand the true meaning of Willie Smith’s walkoff two-run homer on April 8, 1969, […]

Perfect at Home, Nikola Vucevic Has Been Awesome, The Portland Pick, and Other Bulls Bullets

Do you think Billy Donovan keeps checking the Eastern Conference standings just to make sure it’s real? I know I do! The Chicago Bulls have started the season 5-0 at home! While I am not as obsessed with “home court advantage” as Arturas Karnisovas, I think we can all agree that you’re supposed to play better in your own building. For whatever reason, the Bulls have been awful at that over the past few years. They have finished below .500 at the United Center in each of the last two sea...

Caleb Williams Speaks: No Slouch Games, Ready for the Road Ahead

Sunday’s matchup with the New York Giants seems like a winnable game for the Chicago Bears at home in front of the Soldier Field crowd. The Giants are 2-5 on the season, 0-5 on the road, and the Bears are four and a half point favorites. Still, quarterback Caleb Williams says Chicago won’t be looking past the Giants on Sunday, speaking at his weekly press conference, that there’s no “slouch game” in this league. “When you go out there and you play vs. those guys, you know, those guys...

Spencer Knight Should Be in the USA Olympic Roster Conversation

We’ve already talked a good amount here about the marvelous start to the season the Blackhawks have enjoyed from goaltender Spencer Knight . Knight, 24, has started 10 of the Blackhawks’ first 14 games. Among goalies who have appeared in at least 5 games this season, Knight ranks fourth in save percentage (.919) and 11th in goals against average (2.56). Of course, GAA is a function of the number of shots he’s facing. And we don’t need to look much further than Wednesday night’s win to see...

WATCH: NVP Colston Loveland Gets Slimed

Have a week, Colston Loveland. Hours after it was announced that the Chicago Bears rookie tight end was named the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week , Loveland was given the NVP award. No franchise has a richer history when it comes to the coveted NVP award than the Bears. Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky won it in January 2021 for his efforts in what is still the Bears’ most recent playoff appearance. But now, Loveland can also claim the honor of winning the NVP award as a member of Ch...

Week 10 game preview: Bears vs. Giants

The Chicago Bears are looking to keep their winning ways going by taking on a New York Giants squad trying to find their way. In some ways, this Giants squad is reminiscent of recent Bears teams. They’ve been stuck in the mud with a coach that it seems like the fanbase is turning on, but […]

Colson Montgomery cracks MLB’s Top 10 most impactful rookies

Colson Montgomery did more than surprise White Sox fans with his strong rookie season — he caught the attention of several MLB analysts. Each year, MLB ranks the Top 10 rookies based on their long-term value to their organizations, and this year Montgomery was No. 7 on the list. Ironically, this year is the first […]

Cubs, Colin Rea agree to one-year deal for 2026

The Cubs had a one-year, $6 million option for Colin Rea for 2026. They’re going to keep him for next year, but on a different deal: So that’s a slight increase in his 2026 salary from the previous option year, and if Rea does well enough in 2026, the team can keep him for 2027 […]

Cubs Buy Out Justin Turner, Who Becomes a Free Agent

It’s news in the sense that it is a transaction that today occurred, but this is one of those transactions that was always going to occur. Justin Turner is a free agent: As expected, Justin Turner has become a free-agent. That means the Cubs declined his $10M team option for '26, in favor of the $2M buyout. — Jordan Bastian (@bastianmlb.bsky.social) 2025-11-06T15:04:13.790Z When the Cubs signed Turner to join their bench last year, the contract’s structure may have inc...
