Small consolation, but they got it right in the end. Nabi Kibunguchy received a red card in Sacramento Republic FC’s last game, a 2-0 loss to Orange County SC on Saturday, but it turns out what looked like a questionable call was indeed incorrect.
Kibunguchy appeared to have received a DOGSO (denial of an obvious goal-scoring opportunity) straight red card for a foul just before halftime, but it appeared another Republic FC defender was in the immediate vicinity,...

Republic FC’s slump drags on in red card-filled loss. Sacramento Republic FC conceded two first-half goals, then picked up two red cards, as they lost 2-0 to Orange County SC on Saturday at Heart Health Park.
Sacramento’s winless run is now nine games, and the loss arrests any kind of progress the team might have felt they made midweek in a draw against Oakland Roots. While Orange County have been stellar in recent months, the latest poor result has to be a major...

Youngster played his part in tourney for his country. Marcos Lopez should be returning to the San Jose Earthquakes in the coming days, after missing more than a month of action with his club, while out on international duty. Fortunately, it was a pretty decent outcome for him personally.
Lopez’s Peru finished in 4th place at the 2021 Copa América in Brazil on Friday, after they lost a nail-biter 3-2 to Colombia in the 3rd place game. Lopez fea...

Will it change the team’s trajectory? In news that is not news anymore (sorry, I was on vacation), Jesse Fioranelli was fired as the San Jose Earthquakes ’ general manager last week. I spoke to Jesse a few times the past couple years, and as everyone who has interacted with him in this business has said, he struck me as a kind guy who was more publicly honest than most people in his position.
But the Earthquakes have not been one of the free-spending teams i...

Manager determined to get team back on track. The pieces were in place for a special night on Saturday for the San Jose Earthquakes , but it wasn’t meant to be.
A six-game winless run coming in, including a battering midweek on the road, came up against a resurgent LA Galaxy team in the Cali Clasico at PayPal Park, but even with a full crowd and hope that the Quakes would turn it on in the derby once again, it didn’t break that way, as San Jose lost 3-1...

Cali Clasico at home does not go at all to plan. The San Jose Earthquakes ’ winless run has extended to seven games, after they lost the Cali Clasico against the LA Galaxy 3-1 on Saturday at PayPal Park.
While the margin of defeat was smaller than the Quakes’ last match, that comes as scant consolation for a team that did score late, but after the game was already decided.
Matias Almeyda opted for a three-man midfield in this game, with Eric Remedi returni...

Will we finally have a good start for a change? It’s time again for Manuel Pellegrini to get it right. United will feel the pressure, in the middle of their Champions League quarterfinal tie with Barcelona, to keep up in the Top 4 race. But they will also be desperate for the victory despite any squad fatigue.
No matter what the result is, the Hammers need to start well for a change and give a good account for the full 90.
