The Arizona Cardinals do no have a head coach, but their GM Monti Ossenfort is still busy adding players for future’s contracts. Today, the team announced they have signed wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette. From the team: The Arizona Cardinals Football Club today announced that the team has signed wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette (ah-MEER / smith-MAR-set) to a […]
According to SNY analyst/former Mets General Manager Jim Duquette, the Mets have ‘likely’ added a fourth year to their offer to free agent outfielder Kyle Tucker. Additionally, Duquette believes there would be an opt-out – or possibly multiple opt-outs – as well. Duquette also notes that Mets owner Steve Cohen is involved in the negotiations, […]
Rhett Lowder took home the #3 spot in this year’s Community Prospect Rankings, doing so in a pretty dominant fashion. Next up, we’ll figure out who deserves spot #4 on the list with another crowded ballot full of high draft picks and well regarded risers within the system. There will be an embedded Google Form […]
The Cincinnati Reds made Rhett Lowder their 1st round pick out of Wake Forest University back in the summer of 2023. He didn’t make his professional debut until the 2024 season, yet by that season’s end he was slicing up eyeballs on the mound in Great American Ball Park. His meteoric rise, polish, and early […]
Another day, another discussion of Nico Hoerner trade rumors. I’m going to do this one a little differently than the last couple , because I want to make sure I’m getting the entire range of my thoughts on this subject out there. I have gone to great lengths for weeks to articulate why I believe the Cubs obviously have to listen on Hoerner, and also why the size of trade it would require is simply unlikely to happen. But I think I’ve still left a lot unsaid.
First, though, let me share th...

It’s done. The Chicago Cubs have signed third baseman Alex Bregman. Officially official, and he’s on the 40-man roster, which now stands at 39.
Bregman, 31, reportedly gets five years and $175 million, with deferrals that kick that annual rate down to about $30 million for luxury tax purposes. It is one of the largest deals in team history, however you “count” it, and means so very many things for the organization in the short-term and long-term.
Bregman will wear number 3 for the Cu...
All of us heard about the Cubs’ signing of Alex Bregman Saturday evening — right about the time the Bears were mounting their tremendous comeback win over the Packers. It was a great day for Chicago sports. This morning, the Cubs announced the signing of Bregman by press release. It contained the following information that […]
It is March 9th, 2026. Blas Castaño is getting A-side bullpen reps for the Mariners while some of his teammates are away playing for their respective teams in the World Baseball Classic. With so many regulars resting or away at the WBC, the field looks much more like one of his Triple-A Tacoma games than […]
As the Arizona Cardinals continue to add names to their head coaching search, some will pique interest, some will leave you asking who, and some will just make you not interested. Not sure where Arthur Smith falls, but he is the latest in a now 13 person line of interviews the Arizona Cardinals have either […]
The Pittsburgh Pirates are led by Paul Skenes in the rotation, but there is trade value beyond him that other teams could count on. Bleacher Report writer Joel Reuter suggested a trade that would send Pirates starting pitcher Mitch Keller to the Athletics for outfielder Colby Thomas, shortstop Joshua Kuroda-Grauer, and utility player Brennan Milone. […]
Tarik Skubal is perhaps the best pitcher in baseball right now. He has won back-to-back Cy Young Awards, winning the pitching triple crown (wins, ERA, strikeouts) in 2024. The Detroit Tigers have offered him $19 million to pitch for them this year, less money than Nathan Eovaldi, Robbie Ray, Luis Severino, Eduardo Rodriguez, or Sean […]
Last week in this series, we discussed the story of Hideki Irabu, the first Japanese player to sign with the Yankees. Irabu never fully adjusted to pitching stateside despite flashes of high-end talent and was castigated by fans, media, and ownership alike. Despite this, it would not take long for the team to return to […]
We are under a month from pitchers and catchers officially reporting to Spring Training, though obviously many guys have been there for a long time getting in their work …
Very good to see these lefties throwing:

We’ve finally made it, folks. The end of our Season In Review series. 57 players, down just one to go. Who else to wrap up our review series than a potential closer? Right-hander Elvis Alvarado made his big league debut this year for the Athletics and looked more than ready for the big leagues. Now […]
As the dust settles on the Alex Bregman departure, details about the Red Sox failed free agent pursuit are starting to trickle out. Unsurprisingly, Alex Speier has a ton of interesting nuggets, including: the Red Sox had a trade for Nolan Arenado all but completed last offseason until Bregman and Scott Boras approached the Sox […]
As the Arizona Cardinals continue to look for another new head coach, they are leaning into things a bit different this time, casting a wide net. Enter Houston Texans defensive coordinator and former Arizona Cardinals defensive line coach Matt Burke. Burke is the Texans defensive play caller, and has created a monster of a defense […]

Washington Nationals fans, we are finally free from MASN. After a long and unhappy marriage, the Nationals are leaving MASN and partnering with MLB TV to broadcast their games. The Nats announced the move this morning. After much uncertainty, we know how we are going to watch Nats games in 2026. This move comes with […]
The Arizona Cardinals have requested to interview Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith for their head coach position, per Ian Rapoport. Smith and Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort spent a year together in Tennessee when Smith was the offensive coordinator of the Titans. The Cardinals moved on from head coach Jonathan Gannon after three seasons […]
The son of Jason Gordon, a professional golfer, Robert Joseph Gordon pursued baseball instead of golf, playing at Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, California, in his first three years of high school and then West Ranch High School in Stevenson Ranch, California in his senior year. He lettered twice at Notre Dame and […]
After revealing the players who appeared on a single ballot on Monday and six multi-ballot players yesterday, it’s time to write about the five players who fell just short from Honorable Mention Purple Row Prospect (PuRP) status in the pre-season 2026 voting. For each player, I’ll include a link to individual stats and contract status (via Baseball-Reference), […]
With the 2025 Texas Rangers season having come to an end, we shall be, over the course of the offseason, taking a look at every player who appeared in a major league game for the Texas Rangers in 2025. Today we are looking at outfielder Wyatt Langford. There’s a couple of ways to look at […]
After the Philadelphia Eagles’ utterly predictable playoff loss on Sunday, one sentiment I commonly saw was that the Phillies needed to sign Bo Bichette to help raise the spirits of the city’s sports fans. It still hasn’t happened, but that’s not terribly surprising. As we’ve seen, baseball’s free agency period is far different than other […]
Roster construction is far from complete, but the Twins have made several changes to their 40-man roster. They may not be high-prominence changes, but they are changes, and with those changes come new jersey numbers. Even the numerical assignations are not yet complete: four new members of the 40-man roster (Gabriel Gonzalez, Ryan Kreidler, Hendry […]
