Let me state quite firmly up front that it’s hardly a BAD thing to have excellent young talent transition from being a top-100-type prospect to a big league contributor. It’s also hardly a bad thing to use top-100-type prospect talent in trades for big league impact. So a lot of what I’m saying here on that front is qualitatively neutral, at worst. The Chicago Cubs have had a lot of very recent top-100 types.
But it’s just factual – and not good in isolation – that the Cubs have seen the ...
The Minnesota Wild are expressing interest in hard-nosed, two-way New York Rangers center Vincent Trocheck.
Last summer, I wrote about Trocheck being a good fit for the Wild. Now it looks like general manager Bill Guerin wants to trade for him.
Let's face it, the Wild aren't getting a fr...
Alright, we’re done the top four. Gage Wood – 87Dante Nori – 36Aroon Escobar – 34Francisco Renteria – 23Gabriel Rincones – 21Matthew Fisher – 1 Now comes a mad scramble. Not that I’ll say drafting Gage Wood in the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft was a surprise, but it sure wasn’t what I […]
Milwaukee native Mitch Voit attended Whitefish Bay High School in the eponymous Whitefish Bay, a suburb of Milwaukee. Hoping to one day follow in the footsteps of alumnus Craig Counsell, Voit put on a show in his senior season, hitting .581/.632/.892 with 10 doubles, 2 triples, 5 home runs, 33 stolen bases in 34 attempts, […]
The great folks over at Baseball America released their top 100 list today. There are three Nationals on the list, with two more that are probably close calls. The three top 100 guys are Eli Willits, Jarlin Susana and Harry Ford. Willits is the highest ranked National at 31st. Susana checks in at 68th, while […]
Morning, all! With severe winter weather bearing down on the metroplex the Rangers have cancelled Fan Fest. Josh Sborz is coming back to Texas on a minor league deal with an invite to Spring Training. Andruw Jones and Carlos Beltran have been elected to the Hall of Fame. They played a combined 124 games for […]
The Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2026 was announced on Tuesday night, with outfielders Carlos Beltrán and Andruw Jones earning their way into Cooperstown after receiving the support of at least the necessary 75% of voting members of the Baseball Writers Association of America. Shocking no one, another goes by without any Orioles connection […]
Baseball America has released their 2026 top 100 prospect list, and the Texas Rangers have two players on the list. Yes, two. That’s not a typo. Sebastian Walcott making the top 100 was a given, with the only question being whether he would crack the top 10 or not. Walcott ended up at #16 on […]
Good morning everyone! We’ve got much to report on as we get this Wednesday underway, so let’s get to it. In Mariners news… Around the league… Anders’ pick…
Morning everyone and welcome to Wednesday! Don’t you love a short week? Yesterday morning we got a report indicating that future Hall of Fame third baseman Nolan Arenado rejected a trade to the Athletics just prior to getting flipped to Arizona instead. Per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the A’s and Cardinals had come to […]
The San Diego Padres have won precisely one World Series game in the history of their franchise. On October 10, 1984, they defeated the Detroit Tigers 5-3 in Game 2 of that season’s Fall Classic. Their starter, Ed Whitson, gave up more runs (three) than he recorded outs (two). So out of the bullpen came […]
While some level of frustration about 2025 remains, the Kansas City Royals are poised to secure back-to-back-to-back winning seasons immediately after tying the franchise record for most losses in a year. That comeback is impressive, especially considering how the Royals accomplished it. Yes, the Royals signed some free agents to do so, but they’ve largely […]
Earlier this week I posted this article saying that MLB players should propose a salary cap/floor system to owners. In the poll attached to the article, 78 percent of you agreed with that idea, though with some caveats that owners would never open their books to players. Late Tuesday, Evan Drellich posted this article at […]
The final review of the 2025 season will be looking at each position in the Astros farm system. Next up is the outfield position. BEST OF THE BUNCH Alonzo Tredwell Tredwell was the Astros 2nd round pick back in the 2023 draft and he had a breakout season this year. The right-hander pitched across three […]
“They wanted to put a right-hander in the lineup and I took advantage of that.” That’s how Andruw Jones described getting the opportunity from then-manager Bobby Cox and then-General Manager John Schuerholz to join that 1996 Atlanta Braves team that went on to win the pennant. Jones famously hit two homers in his first two […]
27. Riley Kelly (79 points, 10 ballots) Kelly was Colorado’s fourth round pick, 107th overall, in the 2025 draft out of UC-Irvine. The 6’5” 21-year-old righty starter signed for a $700k bonus, just about $15k under the slot value. Like many other high Rockies draftees, Kelly was a high school quarterback with some good athleticism. […]
It’s been an offseason of shocking, sobering change for the New York Mets. But as the comforting sight of pitchers and catchers reporting to Spring Training lurks just around the corner, there’s at least one thing fans will find familiar about the revamped team: the Mets’ roster is, once again, overflowing with infielders. Despite parting […]
Points for Miller and Mika, pain for Jonathan Quick, kids getting minutes, and the Rangers inching closer to the bottom—call it all bad, which is good (for now).
We looked at Astros hitter projections a couple of weeks ago and the natural follow up would be pitchers. However, I specifically waited on them because some projection systems had not released their projections yet. There are still some (like ZIPS) that are not universally available yet. However, there are now enough to get a […]
Bud Black and Wil Myers returned to the San Diego Padres organization last week and each will serve a role in helping the Padres reach the ultimate goal of winning a World Series. Black will serve in a front office role and Myers will serve in a coaching role at the lower levels of the […]
Grace is back, recovered from yet another illness, to talk about the latest in baseball. First she gets into the Mets, who lost quite a few long time Mets while adding some big name free agents. They also have some big news brewing potentially with the Hall of Fame results imminent. Next, she speed runs […]
Good morning! The Baseball Hall of Fame will have two new members in a few months, as Carlos Beltran and Andruw Jones were officially elected yesterday. The two Red Sox legends on the ballot, Dustin Pedroia and Manny Ramirez, failed to hit the 75% vote threshold. Pedroia, though, is only in his second year on […]
Steele Hall was just taken 9th overall in the most recent MLB Draft, turned 18 years of age, and found himself ranked 7th on the 2026 Community Prospect Rankings at Red Reporter dot com. Pretty impressive six months there, kid! After one of the tightest voting rounds in CPR history, we move now towards voting […]
Welcome back to the 2025-26 edition of Smash or Pass, in which we examine potential free agent and trade targets to determine whether the Red Sox should pursue them and what it would take to land them. Today we look at a vereran lefy reliever. Who is he and where does he come from? He’s Tim […]
Yesterday, the team held a few Zoom conferences with members of the organization. The more prominent one was with J.T. Realmuto as he talked about coming back to Philadelphia to be a member of the Phillies and how he tries to extract whatever he can to help his fellow catchers. An admirable quest for him, […]
