Who is he and where did he come from? He’s Matt Clyde Joe Teran Fraizer, and he comes to us from Clovis, California via the University of Arizona and the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league system. The Red Sox signed him as a minor league free agent last week after he was released by the Pirates. […]
The Tampa Bay Rays have already made a couple of notable deals this offseason under new owner Patrick Zalupski, shipping out the likes of Brandon Lowe and Shane Baz. Lowe was sent to a long-shot-at-best contender in the Pittsburgh Pirates, and Baz was traded to a pitching-needy division rival in the Baltimore Orioles, once again […]
The Pittsburgh Pirates will have to pivot to new options at third base. According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, Japanese third baseman Kuzuma Okamoto is signing with the Toronto Blue Jays. Okamoto’s posting window was set to close at 5 p.m. on Sunday. Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reported earlier on Saturday that the Pirates were […]
The San Diego Padres are looking to revamp their corner infield depth, as Manny Machado is a fixture at third base, but the first base position is wide open. Last year’s starter, Luis Arraez, remains a free agent, and Ryan O’Hearn signed a two-year deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates. They added Jose Miranda on a […]
It has been an absolute joy getting to see Andrew McCutchen rejoin the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2023 after playing elsewhere for five seasons. McCutchen has been signing one-year deals in the offseason over the last couple of seasons, but now as the Pirates are investing in their lineup more than ever he remains unsigned with […]
The Pittsburgh Pirates have been busy this offseason, acquiring several veteran hitters to join the team. While the Pirates will look different on the field next season, there is still a need to bring on a few more pieces to the puzzle. Bleacher Report writer Joel Reuter believes the Pirates need to add a shortstop […]

Well, if the Japanese sports front pages are to believed – take that figuratively or literally, at least in one case – infielder Kazuma Okamoto has three finalists for his services ahead of his January 4 posting expiration.
The front page of Nikkan Sports today has Kazuma Okamoto in an Angels, Padres, and Pirates hat as his posting window deadline looms. https://t.co/z1ZqcKABSd — Yakyu Cosmopolitan (@yakyucosmo) December 30, 2025

The Pittsburgh Pirates are spending another year in last place in the National League Central standings. The Pirates finished with a 71-91 record in the 2025 season, which led Bleacher Report writer Kerry Miller to give the team a “C-” grade in his yearly report card for all 30 teams. “In Pittsburgh’s case, an atypical […]
I think we can all agree that the Pittsburgh Pirates have had a successful offseason thus far — signing Ryan O-Hearn and trading for Brandon Lowe — but they could really put the cherrry on the Sundae if they manage to sign Japanese first baseman/ third baseman Kazuma Okamoto in the coming days, and the […]
When the Pittsburgh Pirates took Henry Davis with the first pick in the 2021 draft out of Louisville, the general consensus was that his bat was going to play, but there were questions whether or not he would stick behind the plate. Davis was considered the clear top pick in that draft with his power […]
The Pittsburgh Pirates are a team to look out for in free agency as they look to add some power to the lineup after being one of the worst offenses in the MLB last season. The team signed Ryan O’Hearn from the San Diego Padres, who will be more of an outfielder while trading for […]
The Pittsburgh Pirates are improving their offense by signing Ryan O’Hearn away from the San Diego Padres on a two-year deal. O’Hearn, 32, is set to make $29 million over the next two seasons with the Bucs, giving them a designated hitter and outfielder to work with. ESPN insider Bradford Doolittle graded the signing and […]

Yesterday, Ryan O’Hearn signed a 2-year $29 million contract with the Pirates. This is relevant to the Nats in a couple of ways. The most obvious is that the Nats missed out on a first base target. I wrote about O’Hearn as a fit and even said a potential contract could be 2-years $28 million. […]
Tuesday saw another rival of the Cincinnati Reds make a significant move towards being better at baseball during calendar year 2026. The Pittsburgh Pirates, of all clubs, jumped at signing free agent 1B/OF Ryan O’Hearn, landing him on a deal worth some $29 million across a pair of seasons, proving that they are at least […]
The Pittsburgh Pirates have made another splash to help their offense. According to Robert Murray of FanSided, the Pirates have signed first baseman/outfielder Ryan O’Hearn to a two-year contract with $29 million. Murray adds that the deal includes $500 thousand in performance bonuses over each of the two seasons. Our long national nightmare is over. […]
The Pittsburgh Pirates have landed their second notable bat of the offseason, aiming to improve an offense that otherwise might’ve seriously held back a good young pitching staff.
First it was Brandon Lowe in trade , and now it’s Ryan O’Hearn in free agency:
A splash for the Pirates: Free-agent first baseman Ryan O’Hearn and the Pittsburgh Pirates are in agreement on a two-year, $29 million contract, according to sources familiar with the deal. It includes $500K in performance bonuse...
After much talk and speculation, the Pittsburgh Pirates put words into action to help their offense. On Friday, the Pirates acquired All-Star second baseman Brandon Lowe from the Tampa Bay Rays, along with two other players, in a three-team trade. The Pirates, Rays, and Houston Astros combined for a deal where the Pirates received three […]
About a decade ago, the Pittsburgh Pirates surprisingly signed Korean star infielder Jung-Ho Kang to a tiny four-year, $11 million deal after winning his posting with a mere $5 million bid (that’s how it worked back then). It was unclear just how good he might be in MLB, and obviously teams were wary. So the Pirates kinda came out of nowhere, and nabbed him. Kang went on to be kind of a monster his first two years in MLB, before derailing his career with legal troubles .
From Japan, the P...
The Pittsburgh Pirates are making some noise in the offseason and they could be a team to watch in free agency. The BD staff got together and shared which player they want the Pirates to target in free agency. Austin Bechtold The Pirates should sign third baseman Eugenio Suarez. After training for Brandon Lowe, the […]
For those needing a dramatis personae, or those who mistook Chris Stratton for Andrew Heaney (oops), Stratton is a journeyman pitcher who was drafted by and debuted with the San Francisco Giants before bouncing around the league. Stratton broke into the league as a six-pitch starter, but shifted to the bullpen once joining the Pittsburgh Pirates organization in […]
As the last days of 2025 pass us by, the Major League Baseball trade wire is heating up, but so far the St. Louis Cardinals have remained silent – for now. One of the biggest and most complicated trades this offseason was just completed between the Houston Astros, Pittsburgh Pirates and the Tampa Bay Rays. […]
In a flurry of moves involving the Pirates, Astros, and Orioles, the Rays acquired six prospects and a comp pick. While B-Lowe will be missed, the Rays got an impressive return that will positively impact the big league roster in 2026. And following the Baz trade, the Rays found a plethora of promising prospects piled […]
