Maple Leafs' Chris Tanev Out for Season

The Toronto Maple Leafs will be without their best defensive defenceman for the rest of this season, as Chris Tanev has undergone core muscle surgery. Tanev is expected to make a full recovery in time for training camp in September. Tanev has been out for the majority of the season with multiple injuries. Back on November 1, the Leafs blueliner was stretchered off the ice and taken to hospital during a game in Philadelphia. Tanev missed multiple games and returned to the lineup in late Decembe...

Craig Berube on Easton Cowan’s lack of ice-time opportunity as the Leafs’ season wears on: “We will get his minutes up”

Better Know Your Blue Jays 40-Man: Myles Straw

Myles Straw is a 31-year-old, right-handed hitting, center fielder. The Jays traded for him on January 17th, 2025. We got Myles Straw and some international bonus pool money money. At the time we thought/hoped the money would go to Roki Sasaki. Unfortunately, Roki went to the Dodgers and the Jays had to pretend they wanted […]

The Phillies return to spring training action this afternoon against Canada’s World Baseball Classic roster. Aaron Nola makes his first start, prior to joining Italy in the tournament. Let’s discuss! For the Phillies: For Canada:

Lightning Morning News: Team confident that the play will improve

For the record, Coach Jon Cooper isn’t worried about the team right now. Yes, he acknowledges that they’re not playing well, but he’s confident that the team will figure it out. For 55 games or so this has been a tough defensive team that makes opponents work for every goal. Right now that’s not happening and the Minnesota loss was a microcosm of the losing streak. They gifted the Wild a stretch of power plays that ended with a Mats Zuccarello power play goal to make it 2-0. Then Andrei V...

Wednesday Open Thread

Last week, Thursday Open Thread day happened on Friday. This week it is happening on Wednesday. Why? Well, because today is an off-day for the Jays and I’m going to be away from the computer for a good part of the day. So why don’t we have the Open Thread today. The rules? You are […]

NHLTR: Maple Leafs Trade Talks Involve 5 Players

Toronto Maple Leafs remain a team to watch heading into Friday's trade deadline, as general manager Brad Treliving is involved in multiple trade conversations. The Leafs are sellers ahead of this season's trade deadline, which is a situation they had no interest in being in at the start of the year. After a disappointing year, Treliving is trying to retool on the fly and has several players who could be on the move before Friday afternoon. Bobby McMann and Scott Laughton are the two who teams ...

Flyers set High Price for Rasmus Ristolainen, Frontrunner Named

He's missed plenty of time this season, but Rasmus Ristolainen is back as a top-pairing Philadelphia Flyers defenseman, and he's proving to be a serious commodity at this trade deadline. The right-shot blueliner has been terrific in his time back in the lineup the past couple of months and is logging massive ice-time for Philly, culminating in a 27-minute workhorse effort in a win over Toronto Monday night.  The Flyers will be charging a high price, though, for any team looking to t...

NHLTR: Edmonton Oilers trading Andrew Mangiapane

The Andrew Mangiapane sweepstakes will be coming to an end over the next 48 hours, as the Edmonton Oilers are engaged in advanced trade talks around the struggling winger. Mangiapane was recently sent down by the Oilers to the AHL, and only played one shift, just to ensure he 'played' in one game, and is now eligible to be traded. The Oilers want to acquire a third-line center and have interest in Nic Roy and Scott Laughton off the Toronto Maple Leafs, but need to move Mangiapane first, to cle...

Maple Leafs & Wild Emerging as Trade Partners

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Minnesota Wild are becoming more and more plausible trade partners as Friday's deadline creeps closer.  Maple Leafs forwards Scott Laughton and Bobby McMann have both acknowledged the noise around their names, and the Wild's general manager Bill Guerin is clearly in the market for forward help as the Central Division race tightens. Maple Leafs Wild trade partners for Scott Laughton Laughton feels like the best fit if Minnesota wants a dependable middle of t...

Pros and cons of Flyers winning games right before trade deadline

They’ve played 60 games and have 22 to go. That’s a possible 44 points available if they were to somehow run the table the last six weeks of the season. That’s probably not happening. However, after losing to Washington 3-1 in their first game after the Olympic break, Philadelphia has managed to beat the Rangers, then eke out victories against the Bruins and, on Monday night, Toronto. That’s six of a possible eight points. It puts them four points out of a wildcard spot heading into Tuesday ni...

Luke Haymes & Jacob Quillan score big goals in Toronto Marlies’ 5-2 win over Chicago

“We did a much better job of slowing down [Chicago] through the neutral zone. You’re not going to contain them for 60 minutes, but we slowed them down enough to be able to defend with numbers and get pucks stopped. We did a lot of good things.” – John Gruden “As prospects, they continue to […] The post Luke Haymes & Jacob Quillan score big goals in Toronto Marlies’ 5-2 win over Chicago appeared first on Maple Leafs Hotstove .

How Trevor Zegras’ elite shootout ability gives the Flyers a crucial edge

The Flyers went to yet another shootout Monday night as they took on the Toronto Maple Leafs up in Canada, and Trevor Zegras – along with Dan Vladar’s stellar goaltending – was the hero. His continued success in the shootout is something that could be a sneaky important skill for the Flyers as they look to move forward and compete for the playoffs. Trevor Zegras has been one of the most electric players in the shootout over his six-year NHL career – scoring highlight reel goals after high...
