Rest in Peace Kenny Kline
By Jay Horwitz The collegiate sports public relations profession lost a giant last night. Kenny Klein passed away. He was only 66. I first met Kenny during his four-decade long Hall of Fame career as the SID of University of Louisville. We renewed four friendship the last two years when he came to St. John’s to help the communications department. I saw him at all the Red Storm’s games at Madison Square Garden and he always had a huge smile and handshake for me. We talked about our mutual frien...
METS ANNOUNCE MANAGERIAL CHANGE
FLUSHING, NY, June 26, 2026 — The New York Mets today announced the departure of Manager Carlos Mendoza. Andy Green will take over as Interim Manager for the remainder of the 2026 season. The announcement was made by Mets President of Baseball Operations David Stearns. “Carlos has led the organization with passion and grace and is beloved by everyone who works with him on a daily basis,” said Stearns. “Carlos’ impact on our players, staff, and culture over the last three seasons has been tran...
St. John’s Zuby Ejiofor Embarking on NBA Career
By Jay Horwitz Last night Zuby Ejiofor became the only player to have done my podcast and then get picked in the first round of the NBA Draft. The St. John’s star was selected 23rd overall by the Atlanta Hawks. I had the pleasure of watching Zuby for the last three years. Zuby won every individual award imaginable but for him it was always team first. He did what a took to win: a key rebound, a blocked shot, a big assist or a three-pointer. Just completely selfless. I plan to run out and get b...

Mike Breen Throwing First Pitch
By Jay Horwitz Thrilled that Mike Breen will be throwing out the first pitch before our game with the Chicago Cubs Monday night. Sure, Mike is a Hall of Fame basketball announcer, and he did a great job of emceeing the Knicks parade this last week. For me, he always will be a dedicated and loyal Mets fan who is one of us, both in good times and bad times. When people talk about OG’s magical tip-in, Mike recalls the spectacular catches Ron Swoboda and Tommie Agee made to save the 1969 World Ser...
John Franco Makes Broadcasting Debut
By Jay Horwitz Best of luck to our very own John Franco, who will make his national broadcasting debut Sunday night. He will be doing color on our game with the Philadelphia Phillies, which airs on NBC at 7:15 PM. Johnny knows baseball inside out. He is no casual fan. He has been to Spring Training the last few years and is really familiar with our guys. On each of his ambassador visits to Citi Field, Johnny makes it his business to stop by and see Carlos Mendoza. A great listen for sure. Mayb...
Wishing Dennis D’Agostino Could Have Seen This Year’s Knicks
By Jay Horwitz In the midst of all the Knicks celebration and glee, I want to pause and remember my dear friend Dennis D’Agostino. I just wish he were here to enjoy the festivities. Dennis and I worked together for five years in the Mets PR department. I couldn’t have made it through the 1986 championship year without him. Dennis was there in 1999 when New York lost to the same San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals. Dennis’s basketball press guides were packed with great nuggets, and no one did ...
José Reyes Rooting for OG Anunoby and the Knicks
By Jay Horwitz José Reyes was thrilled as he watched his friend OG Anunoby make perhaps the most famous tip-in in the history of the NBA this week. José is a die-hard fan and will be pulling for OG and the Knicks to close out the Spurs tomorrow night. The two met on José’s visits to Madison Square Garden. OG loves the Mets and has cards of José, Carlos Delgado, and Pedro Martinez in his collection. “It made me feel old when he told me he had one of my cards,” said Reyes with a smile. “He knows...
St. John’s on Verge of Super Regional
By Jay Horwitz No one loves St. John’s University more than John Franco. No matter what the sport, he usually will be in the stands cheering for his alma mater. Last winter he yelled as the Red Storm basketball team put together its second straight year with 30 or more wins, won its second straight Big East regular season title and captured the Big East post season tournament for the second consecutive time. This spring Franco is invested in St. John’s baseball team, which has posted a 36–24 r...
My History with the New York Knicks
By Jay Horwitz I know I haven’t written much about the Knicks this year, but please don’t call me a Johnny-come-lately. I am not a bandwagon jumper. My history with the team goes back 57 years to the 1969–1970 NBA season. I had season tickets with some of my college friends from NYU. I saw about 35 games that year, way up in the blue seats at the old Madison Square Garden. I was in my seat on May 8, 1970, for the Willis Reed Game. The captain was bothered by a leg injury and wasn’t expected to...
