Could Tre Johnson be the next…
One of the Tre Johnson comps produced by The Statistical Doppelganger Machine has me…hmm…the words “kinda stoked” flowed from brain to fingers to keyboard to screen. But “kinda” and “stoked” don’t really go together, so…let’s just go with “stoked.” Editor’s Note: Kevin, you just used the words together while talking about how they don’t go […]
FIBA Women’s World Cup 2026: How much will Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen play?
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen will be playing for the United States in the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup. This will be the second consecutive World Cup where a Mystics player has made the American roster, after Shakira Austin did in 2022. Before the announcement […]

Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen will play for the United States while Alicia Florez will play for Spain. Shakira Austin played for […]

FIBA Women’s World Cup 2026: Alicia Florez makes Spain’s roster
On Monday, FIBA announced Spain’s final roster for the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup. Washington Mystics guard Alicia Florez was announced as one of the players. As a 22-year-old, Florez will probably not play major minutes for Spain, who will look to make their first championship game since 2014 and their first World Cup Gold […]

Can Riley improve fast enough to earn playing time with the newly competitive Wizards?
The Wizards got a fascinating prospect when they chose Will Riley 21st overall. He’s 6-9, skilled, has a funky tough-to-defend (especially if refs keep letting him use that carry elongated hesi dribble) game, and a good helping of competitive moxey. He had some good moments last season, though I was less enamored with even “the […]
SB Nation Reacts: Most Mystics fans think Sydney Johnson should win WNBA Coach of the Year. He probably isn’t though.
Thank you for voting in our SB Nation Reacts survey this week. With the Washington Mystics securing their playoff berth this week, we asked you all whether head coach Sydney Johnson should be the WNBA Coach of the Year. The majority of you thought he should at 82 percent. That said, his odds of winning […]
Mystics at Sparks final score: Washington loses, 88-82
After Georgia Amoore’s career night propelled her squad to a 94-84 win in Phoenix on Thursday, the Washington Mystics returned Friday night for a road tilt against the Los Angeles Sparks. Washington led entering the fourth quarter, but the Sparks’ late surge proved too much as the Mystics lost 88-82. The Mystics overcame a 15-2 […]
Bilal Coulibaly and Alex Sarr not in France’s latest FIBA World Cup qualifiers
The France men’s basketball team defeated Slovenia, 92-67 yesterday in Paris at Accor Arena. The Washington Wizards have Bilal Coulibaly and Alex Sarr as part of the pipeline. They were not named for the roster yesterday however. Sarr is recovering from foot surgery earlier this offseason, but he should be ready to go this fall. […]
Is Bub Carrington the second coming of a Defensive Player of the Year winner?
Another trip through The Statistical Doppelgänger Machine, and another case of ambivalence. On one hand, the comps feel about right. On another hand, they’re not that thrilling. On still another hand, I like a couple (one is someone I’ve suggested Carrington model himself after), and I’m generally okay with another. Like most Wizards fans, I […]

The Washington Mystics defeated the Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday night, 94-84 on the road. Trae Young’s historical comps have something in common, and that could be a problem
Sometimes Past Me annoys Present Me. Today is one of those times. Past Me promised a statistical doppelgänger article about Trae Young. Present Me looked at the numbers and wants to write about Something Else. But…well…crap, a promise is a promise. The first challenge is that Young didn’t play much last season. Just 10 games […]

The Mystics are ahead of schedule
The Washington Mystics are officially headed to the 2026 WNBA Playoffs! And here’s the scary thing for anyone who isn’t a Mystics fan. Washington is playing with house money because … they weren’t supposed to be here yet. Few people would confidently say that Washington would be in the playoffs with the youngest roster in […]
