One win and one loss in one-run matchups, a blowout victory, and a convincing defeat as well. The Dodgers’ minor league system clubs experienced nearly all kinds of results on Wednesday. Player of the day Two home runs, one double, and one single. Josue De Paula had a busy performance, constantly involved in the Drillers’ […]
The San Diego Padres are heading to Dodger Stadium, which has become their house of horrors. Rarely do the Padres play their best baseball in LA Since 2021, the Padres have a 16-33 record (.327 winning percentage) against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Chavez Ravine. After an embarrassing three days in Chicago, the Friars arrive […]
Man, am I sorry for the Cub fans who jumped off the bandwagon and decided to pack it in early for “Wait ‘til next year.” While there might be some efficiency in doing that and almost certainly an avoidance of future heartache and frustration, this team is a lot of fun when it’s going good. […]
Walker Buehler had been the most consistent starter in the San Diego Padres rotation, but that image took a critical hit when the right-hander allowed nine runs over the first three innings to the Chicago Cubs, and the Padres suffered an embarrassing 23-3 loss to cap a three-game sweep at Wrigley Field on Tuesday. Buehler […]
The newly promoted players are settling in for the San Diego Padres’ minor league affiliates. Lake Elsinore is adapting to the loss of multiple high-output offensive players and one of their two best pitchers. They still managed to win two games in their six-game series. After electing free agency after being designated for assignment by […]
At times, I’ve promoted the idea that MLB should have a mercy rule – down 10 runs or more after seven innings, the two managers should be able to just say, “We quit.” It’s games like this that might make me reconsider that idea. On a very hot and windy afternoon at Wrigley Field, Dansby Swanson […]
Go get ‘em, Colin.

Wednesday notes… Cubs lineup: Padres lineup: Colin Rea, RHP vs. Walker Buehler, RHP Colin Rea had a rough patch in early June but his last two starts, against the Blue Jays and Mets, have been very good – 10.1 total innings, one earned run. Hopefully he can continue that tonight vs. the Padres, who he […]

For a brief shining moment, it felt like the San Diego Padres might actually win this one. They did that thing they always do. They gave the Friar Faithful hope for a comeback only to snuff it out almost immediately. It’s easy to get down in moments like this one. Four consecutive losses to contending […]
Last things first, I thought maybe Javier Assad would coast to the finish line and become the 10th different Cub with a save. How is that stat even possible? Not just that 10 different guys have saves. But that there are only 14 total saves. If it were someone like the Rays with 32 total […]

Take a flyball pitcher in JP Sears and put him on the mound in Wrigley Field with the wind blowing out you get a final score that looks like a bad football game. That was the case Tuesday night when the San Diego Padres suffered a 9-7 loss to the Chicago Cubs. Sears was staked […]

The San Diego Padres are hiring.
The San Diego Padres need starting pitching, and Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer predicts they will solve the problem with a familiar face. Rymer projects the Padres to reacquire Kansas City Royals right-hander Michael Wacha ahead of the August 3 trade deadline.
"The Padres needed a starter even before they put Lucas Giolito on the injured list on Tuesday, and Wacha is a guy they know well," Rymer wrote. "He had a 3.22 ERA as a Padre back in 2023."

Shohei Ohtani’s streak of seven consecutive Wednesday pitching starts ends this week, as the Dodgers star won’t pitch the series finale against the A’s in West Sacramento, the team announced on Tuesday. Wednesday is the Dodgers’ sixth game in a stretch of 13 game days in a row, and moving him to Friday against the […]
Tuesday notes… Cubs lineup: Padres lineup: Matthew Boyd, LHP vs. JP Sears, LHP Matthew Boyd’s return to action after his freak knee injury was pretty good, 4.2 shutout innings against the Mets last Thursday. He did walk four and threw 76 pitches, so perhaps he can ramp up to 90+ tonight. Boyd’s outing vs. the […]
